Our Story

Griddles was born from a simple idea: what if you could take the satisfying feeling of solving a word puzzle and combine it with the logical challenge of fitting pieces together? Created in the United Kingdom, Griddles launched as a passion project with a clear goal — to build a word game that feels genuinely different from everything else out there.

Most word games ask you to guess a single word or find words in a list. Griddles flips that on its head. Every puzzle presents you with a grid of letters where every single letter must be used exactly once to form words from a specific category. That constraint turns each puzzle into a satisfying blend of vocabulary knowledge and logical deduction — and it means every puzzle has exactly one correct solution.

What started as a small experiment quickly grew into something much bigger. Today, Griddles generates 54 unique puzzles every single day across 18 categories and 3 difficulty levels, and players from around the world compete on daily leaderboards to see who can solve them fastest.

What Makes Griddles Different

There are thousands of word games on the internet. Here is what sets Griddles apart:

• Every letter matters. Unlike word searches where unused letters are filler, every letter in a Griddles grid is part of an answer. This creates a unique constraint that rewards careful thinking alongside vocabulary knowledge.
• One correct solution. Each puzzle is carefully generated so that there is exactly one way to partition the letters into valid category words. You might find a word that fits, but if it prevents you from completing the rest of the grid, you will need to reconsider — that is what makes it a logic puzzle as well as a word game.
• 54 puzzles daily. While many daily puzzle games offer just one puzzle per day, Griddles gives you 18 categories across 3 difficulty levels. You can spend as little or as much time as you like each day.
• Genuine competition. Daily leaderboards rank players by solve time and hint usage, and streaks reward players who come back day after day. Achievements give you long-term goals to work towards.

Three Difficulty Levels

Every category is available in three difficulties, so both beginners and experienced players can find the right challenge:

• Easy (4x4 grid): 16 letters forming shorter, more common words. A great starting point for new players or a quick daily warm-up.
• Normal (5x5 grid): 25 letters with familiar words from the category. The most popular difficulty level and a solid daily challenge.
• Hard (5x5 grid): 25 letters featuring less common items, multi-word answers, and trickier word splits. Designed for players who want a genuine test.

Free and Premium

Griddles is completely free to play. Every day, all 54 puzzles across all 18 categories and 3 difficulty levels are available to everyone — no account required, no paywall, no limits.

For players who want even more, Griddles Premium is available for £3.99 per month. Premium subscribers get access to every historical puzzle from any previous day via a calendar picker, along with an ad-free experience. You can cancel at any time.

How We Build Puzzles

Every Griddles puzzle is algorithmically generated to guarantee a unique solution. The process works by selecting words from a curated category list, arranging their letters into a grid, and then verifying that no alternative partitioning of the letters produces a valid set of category words. This means you will never encounter a puzzle that is ambiguous or has multiple answers — there is always exactly one correct solution.

New puzzles are generated and published every day at midnight, giving players around the world a fresh set of challenges each morning.
