NATO Phonetic Alphabet

All 26 code words — from Alfa to Zulu — used to spell out letters clearly over radio and telephone.

The NATO phonetic alphabet (officially the International Radiotelephony Spelling Alphabet) assigns a code word to each letter so that spellings can't be confused over a noisy or crackly line — "B" and "P" sound alike, but "Bravo" and "Papa" never do. It's used worldwide in aviation, the military, emergency services and call centres. Note the official spellings "Alfa" and "Juliett."
